I can think of no better place to make beautiful wind music than on the island of Jeju.Having been connected with this festival for many years I am proud and honoured to be invited to be the Artistic Director from 2013.There are many ways to assess the importance of this fantastic event, because it is a success on so many different levels.
The competitions have established themselves as leaders in the world, and carry high prestige amongst the leading soloists, students and teachers of the world. The Wind Festival brings together musicians not just from Asia but all continents of the world, in a spirit of friendship and love that unites people, not just musicians.
If we ever needed such feeling of harmony through music in the world it is now. Musical cultures meet face-to-face creating life changing experiences for all involved. Young people can gain a lifelong motivation and enjoyment of music through the experiences in Jeju. I congratulate the organising committee for their sustained passion for what they do. In creating a truly unique experience for musicians and audiences we can make a difference, stimulating the imagination, enhance our creativity and our ability to work together in harmony.
I hope to see you at the festival.
