Preventing Heat-Related Illnesses During Summer Heatwaves A heatwave refers to a phenomenon where intense heat, usually above 30˚Celcius, occurs in specific areas during the summer season. The Korean government operates a heatwave countermeasure period (May 20 - September 20) every year to prevent climate disasters caused by heatwaves. □ To prevent heat-related illnesses, you must adhere to the three basic rules: Shade - Provide shaded areas (rest areas) near the performance venue. Water - Provide cool and clean water / Drink water regularly. Rest - Get some rest briefly and regularly after sun sets. □ Immediate action must be taken when heat-related illnesses occur: 1. If there is an urgent concern about the risk of heat-related illnesses, take immediate action. 2. If you have any symptoms of a heat-related illness, please follow the steps below promptly. 3. You should check the health status before and after performances. ★ Steps to take when heat-related illnesses occur: 1) Look up the major symptoms beforehand to prevent such as: fatigue, muscle cramps), headache, discomfort. 2) Check consciousness of patients: Call their name, tap them, pinch their side. 3) Actions and observations: Move to a cool place, wear loose clothing, stay cool, drink a lot of water, and rest. (For steps 2 and 3) Request assistance to emergency services (911), inform on-site operating team. 4) Transport to a hospital: Continuously monitor the person's health condition, helping them get back to accommodation or their homes. |
