In Jeju, even amid the difficult cultural environment surrounding the Korean War, the deep beat of drums and the golden sound of brass carried the joys and sorrows of everyday life, along with hope and dreams. This tradition has continued to this day, sharing inspiration and celebration with the people of Jeju.Today, the world is moving beyond ideological conflict toward a new era—standing shoulder to shoulder through culture and friendship, working together for peace.
In this spirit, and in Jeju—known worldwide as both a natural heritage island and an "Island of Peace"—the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival was born to broaden cultural exchange among nations through forward-looking wind music.The Festival began in 1995 as a biennial event, founded on the passion of Jeju's local wind musicians. Since 1999, it has been co-hosted with Jeju City and held annually. Following the launch of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province in 2007, the Festival has continued its legacy in partnership with the Province to this day.Through a balanced combination of performances that highlight the outdoor strengths of wind music and competitions that elevate artistic excellence, the Festival pursues artistry, public appeal, and professionalism in equal measure.
