Jeju Clarinet Choir was founded in October 2016 on Jeju Island, the "Island of Peace," by a group of clarinet enthusiasts who share a common dream and love for the instrument. The ensemble is a close-knit musical community that finds joy in playing the clarinet together and sharing life as one family. Through constant practice and dedication, the group strives to enhance their musical skills while also aiming to create a warmer, more compassionate world. They actively engage in musical activities such as regular volunteer performances, joint concerts, and various collaborative projects.
Conductor Cheong Jun Hwa
Clarinetist Cheong Jun Hwa graduated with honors from Busan Arts High School and Keimyung University in Daegu. He went on to complete the Diplôme d'Études Musicales (D.E.M) and Chamber Music programs at the Conservatoire de Val Maubuée in Paris, France. He later earned both the Diplôme Supérieur d’Exécution and Diplôme Supérieur de Pédagogie with unanimous distinction from the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He currently serves as the concertmaster of the Jeju Provincial Seogwipo Wind Orchestra, a member of the Joyeux Reed Ensemble, and conductor of the Jeju Clarinet Choir. As an active performing artist, he is affiliated with Selmer France, Nonaka Selmer Clarinet, and Zac Ligature. In addition to his performance career, he is committed to music education, teaching at Busan Arts High School, Gyeongbuk Arts High School, Hamdeok High School in Jeju, and Jeju National University.
