Hanuri Saxophone Ensemble is a purely amateur ensemble formed by individuals who enjoy music in their daily lives through the saxophone and seek joy in life through music. Originally founded in 2009 under the name Simile Saxophone Ensemble, the group has continued its activities through regular concerts and outreach cultural performances. In 2023, the ensemble changed its name to Hanuri Saxophone Ensemble and, as of April 2025, consists of 23 active members. The members come from diverse backgrounds, including office workers, self-employed individuals, and professionals in their 30s to 60s. The ensemble is committed to becoming a leading amateur group representing Jeju by not only continuing its own performances but also engaging in active musical exchange through friendly concerts with domestic and international ensembles.
Conductor Lee Sang-hyun
Conductor Lee Sang Hyun graduated from the Department of Music at Jeju National University and has performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Jeju City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra. He founded the Jeju Saxophone Ensemble and previously served as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Jeju Clarinet Ensemble. In 2015, he established the Jeju Saxophone Festival. He is currently a member of the Jeju Provincial Symphony Orchestra and serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Hanuri Saxophone Ensemble.
