Hongpark Kim, hornist, graduated from Seoul Arts High School and the College of Music at Seoul National University. He went on to complete his master’s degree under Radovan Vlatković at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and received the prestigious Konzertexamen (highest performance diploma) from the Berlin University of the Arts, where he studied with Christian-Friedrich Dallmann. Kim has won top prizes in numerous domestic competitions, including the Dong-A Music Competition. Internationally, he was awarded second prize in the Philip Farkas Award by the International Horn Society, and in 2012, he won first prize in the horn category and the Grand Prize overall at the Japan Wind and Percussion Competition in Tokyo. Renowned for his passion and talent in chamber music, he was selected as a scholarship recipient to perform with global masters across Europe at institutions such as Villa Musica, the Gustav Mahler Academy, and the Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander. As a soloist, he has performed with major orchestras including the Oslo Philharmonic (as part of three editions of the Symphony Festival), the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Chamber Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic, Busan Philharmonic, Incheon Philharmonic, Suwon Philharmonic, Daegu Symphony, Wonju Philharmonic, Gwacheon Symphony, and more. He has also appeared at renowned festivals such as the PyeongChang Daegwallyeong International Music Festival and the Seoul Spring Festival, and has been invited to present recitals and masterclasses at international events including the Beijing International Horn Festival, Japan Asia Horn Festival, International Horn Society Symposium, and the Corno Brass Music Festival. He is a former member of the Kumho Art Hall Chamber Music Society and served as associate principal horn of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under Myung-Whun Chung from 2007 to 2010. He has appeared as guest principal with prestigious ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Gothenburg Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Trondheim Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, and the Asian Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2012 to 2014, he served as associate principal horn at the Royal Swedish Opera, and in 2015, he was appointed principal horn of the Oslo Philharmonic, performing under music directors Vasily Petrenko and Klaus Mäkelä. His accolades include selection as one of “12 Rising Young Artists of 2015” by Monthly Auditorium, inclusion in Forbes Korea's “30 Leaders under 30,” the New Artist Prize in Music at the 3rd SAC Arts Awards, and the 32nd Unpa Music Award in 2022. He previously taught at Hanyang University and currently serves as a professor at the College of Music at Seoul National University. He is also a director of the Going Home Project and an active member of Ensemble Opus, Club M, and Korean Horn Sound.
