IDO Wind Orchestra was established in April 2013 after being selected for the Ministry of Education’s Student Orchestra Program in the second half of 2012. Since its inaugural concert in February 2014, the orchestra has continued its steady musical journey and is currently thriving under the direction of conductor Lee Jae Won. The IDO Wind Orchestra has achieved remarkable success in numerous regional, national, and international competitions. Highlights include the Silver Prize at the 2018 Chuncheon International Wind Band Competition, the Gold Prize at the 2018 Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival (U-13 Band Contest), the Silver Prize at the 2018 JIBS Music Competition, the Silver Prize at the 2019 Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival (U-13 Band Contest), the Silver Prize at the 2019 Korea Wind Band Competition, and another Silver at the 2019 JIBS Music Competition. More recently, the orchestra has been awarded the Gold Prize (1st Place) at both the 2022 and 2023 Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival (U-13 Band Contest) and earned the Gold Prize at the 2023 National Student Orchestra Festival. In the same year, they swept the Gold Prizes at the U-13 Band Contest, Chuncheon National Wind Band Competition, and the JIBS Music Competition, continuing their legacy of excellence and musical distinction.
Conductor Lee Jae Won
Lee Jae Won, conductor of the IDO Wind Orchestra, has been actively engaged in music education and ensemble leadership for many years. From 2018 to 2019, he led the woodwind ensemble at Songdang Elementary School, and from 2020 to 2022, he founded and conducted the Shinjeju Wind Orchestra. Since 2023, he has served as conductor of the IDO Wind Orchestra while also leading professional development workshops for elementary, middle, and high school music teachers, focusing on orchestral conducting and enhancing teaching competency. He has contributed to the promotion of student orchestras by presenting case studies and best practices at various training sessions and conferences organized by the Jeju Provincial Office of Education. Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Jeju Orchestra Education Research Association, is a founding member and executive staff of the Jeju Teachers’ Orchestra, Vice President of the Conducting Masterclass Association, and President of the Pianoforte Ensemble, actively working to develop diverse musical expertise.
