Bass vocalist Kim Daeyoung graduated from the Korea National University of Arts and continued his studies in Germany, where he became the first student to earn perfect scores in both the Diplom and Meisterklasse programs at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg. After gaining early recognition by winning numerous domestic competitions such as the JoongAng Music Competition, the Korean Music Association’s Overseas Dispatch Competition, and the Daegu Vocal Competition, he garnered international acclaim with prizes from prestigious European contests including the International Singer’s Competition "Alexander Girardi" (Coburg), TALENTE-CAMPUS (Berlin), Cantilena Gesangswettbewerb (Bayreuth), and the International Competition "Anselmo Colzani" (Bologna). Notably, he became the first Asian laureate at the Concurso Internacional de Ejecución Musical "Dr. Luis Sigall" (Viña del Mar, Chile), solidifying his reputation as a world-class artist.
With a distinctive vocal timbre, expressive acting, and commanding stage presence, Kim has captivated audiences across more than 700 opera performances, taking on over 50 roles including Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Rocco (Fidelio), Ferrando (Il Trovatore), Massimiliano (I Masnadieri), Guardiano (La Forza del Destino), Daland (Der Fliegende Holländer), König Heinrich (Lohengrin), Pogner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Landgraf (Tannhäuser), Colline (La Bohème), Escamillo and Zuniga (Carmen), Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Dulcamara (L'elisir d'amore), La Voce (Idomeneo), Haly (L’italiana in Algeri), Osiride and Voix mystérieuse (Moïse et Pharaon), Truffaldino (Ariadne auf Naxos), Don Profondo (Il Viaggio a Reims), Angelotti and Sagrestano (Tosca), Un vieillard hébreu (Samson et Dalila), Sulpice (La Fille du Régiment), the Manager (Jonny spielt auf), Kaspar and Eremit (Der Freischütz), and many others.
Beyond opera, Kim has a profound dedication to oratorio. Since his debut as bass soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2009, he has performed a wide range of works including Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Gounod’s Messe solennelle de Sainte-Cécile, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Choral), Haydn’s The Creation, and Bruckner’s Te Deum. In 2022, he gave the Korean premiere of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 14 (Lyrics for the Death) with TIMF Ensemble, and in 2023, followed by another Korean premiere—Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 13 (Babi Yar) with the Gwangju Symphony Orchestra, which was later featured again in the 2024 Symphony Festival at the Seoul Arts Center.
Kim has served as a resident soloist at Staatstheater Nürnberg and Deutsches Nationaltheater und Staatskapelle Weimar, and continues to perform actively in both Europe and Korea.
