Ohyun High School was founded in 1951 and named in honor of the "Oh Hyun" (Five Wise Scholars), who were exiled to Jeju during the Joseon Dynasty and left a legacy of scholarly spirit. The school’s wind band was established in September 1952 and has since played a significant role in cultural and ceremonial events across Jeju, earning the deep appreciation of the local community despite the island’s historically limited cultural environment. The band began its award-winning journey in 1953 by receiving the top prize at the Jinju Gaecheon Arts Festival and continued its success most recently in 2022, winning the Grand Prize (First Place in the Middle and High School Division) at the 5th Student Orchestra Festival held in Hamyang. Today, under the direction of Kang Sun-young, the ensemble is composed of over 60 current students and continues to carry on its history and tradition by performing music from a wide range of genres and holding annual concerts.
