JIWEF has achieved great results not only in the development of Korean wind music, but also in international exchange and lifelong friendship through music.
In particular, the Jeju International Brass Competition, which began in 2000, has joined the UNESCO World Federation of International Music Competition and has attracted interest and participation of young musicians around the world.
In addition, the Composition Competition, which began in, will enrich the repertoire of musicians from various countries through wind music based on sentiment of Jeju island. The glowing and charming wind music has the power of wish and harmony.
Hoping that the powerful fanfare created by resonance of wind music would be a blissful gift to all of you, I strongly believe that we can retrieve our vibrant daily lives beyond pandemic era.
Chairman of JIWEF Organizing Committee Lee Sang-Cheol
I am very delightful to have Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival and the Jeju International Brass Competition to be held.
I’d like to deliver my heartfelt gratitude to chairperson Hyun Eul Saeng and Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee for arranging festival online where golden melody is to be shared.
After the outbreak of Covid-19, we are seeing artistic activities develop in ways we have not imagined before. As the wounds of locals have been gradually healed by wind music of hope and peace in the aftermath of Korean War, I anticipate that wind melody blowing all around Jeju Island would comfort people who are struggling under this situation.
I hope the music-making created by wind festival could be enjoyed by everyone.
Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
Hello, my name is Jens Lindemann and I am most honored to accept the artistic directorship of the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival.
Having served as both a guest artist and adjudicator for the festival, I truly appreciate the significance of this position.
I have traveled to Korea numerous times for concerts and masterclasses and have developed a great love for the country as well as it’s passionate people. Presiding over this internationally renowned festival is not only a privilege, it is humbling.
As a young artist, My entire life revolved around music festivals and doing over 40 solo competitions...everything from local, regional, national and international and learned so many things about music and myself.
Most importantly, I was able to meet and hear other brass players from around the world and that was the true lasting experience. The excitement of being around other students my age who were from completely different countries and cultures and hearing how great they were allowed me to start dreaming of what I might be able to accomplish myself . Many of those same students are now lifelong friends and colleagues and we have a tremendous amount of respect for one another.
I am humbled to be an ambassador for Jeju. I assure you that I will do everything possible to celebrate and advance the proud legacy of this esteemed festival which will allow the next generation of young artists to come to Korea and leave as global citizens who will never forget being in this very special place experiencing this extraordinary festival.
I thank you once again for this great honor and look forward to working with all of you!
