Ladies and gentlemen, it is a great pleasure to welcome you all.
In August, when Jeju is filled with the vibrant energy of midsummer, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the opening of the 31st Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Summer Season.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Chairman Yang Seung-bo and all members of the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee for their dedicated efforts to continue building a wind music festival cherished by audiences around the world. I also warmly welcome the musicians from 28 countries who have come to Jeju, as well as all the music lovers joining us for this occasion.
Since taking its first steps in 1995, the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival has grown into a global celebration of music where wind musicians from around the world come together beyond the boundaries of language and nationality. Following the excitement of the wind music composition competition, which beautifully heralded the arrival of spring this past March, this Summer Season will fill Jeju’s seas and skies with a rich and radiant resonance.
This year is especially meaningful as the Jeju International Brass & Percussion Competition is being held alongside the festival, providing talented young musicians from around the world with an opportunity to challenge themselves, compete, and grow. I hope this competition will become a special platform where emerging wind and percussion musicians can nurture their dreams of performing on the world stage, while residents and visitors alike enjoy world-class performances up close.
The true beauty of wind music is fully realized when the distinct sounds of individual instruments come together to create one magnificent harmony. I hope the melodies resonating throughout Jeju during the festival will connect hearts and bring comfort, inspiration, and renewed energy to our daily lives.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province will continue to provide steadfast support so that the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival may grow into one of Korea’s leading cultural brands and become an invaluable asset in advancing Jeju’s cultural tourism.
May the winds of Jeju and the melodies of wind music remain as beautiful and lasting memories in the hearts of everyone taking part in this festival.
Thank you.Governor, Jeju Special Self-Governing ProvinceWi Seong-Gon
