I am deeply honored to serve as Head of the Jury for the 5th Jeju International Composition Competition for Wind Orchestra 2026.
For the past 30 years, the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival has played a leading role in the development of wind music in Korea. It is a truly unique international festival that integrates the wind festival, the brass competition, and the composition competition into a single event, something rarely seen anywhere in the world.
While the orchestra as a genre has a history of roughly 300 years, the wind orchestra represents a dynamic musical art form that has achieved remarkable growth over the past century. I firmly believe that the driving force that will open the next century of this art lies in new creation.
I sincerely hope that among the works presented in this year's competition, a composition will emerge that becomes part of the standard repertoire for wind orchestra. I applaud the courage and passion of all the composers who have taken on this challenge.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to Chairman Yang Seung-bo and the entire Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival Organizing Committee.
Thank you.Head of the JuryKang Cheol-Ho
